7 Facts to Know When Searching for THC Vape Oil

Smoking kills, even if you're smoking organic weed. Vaping your high is a better choice for your lungs and your future. If you're interested in or are transitioning from herb to THC vape oil, the choices can feel overwhelming.

With our guide below, your overwhelmed feelings will dissolve into a cloud of smoke. Read on below to learn the top seven things you need to know about THC vape oil.

1. Organic Matters

Anything you put in your body should be organic, if possible. Your THC vape oil isn't any different. To get the best quality high, shop for products that are 100% certified organic.

In response to recent demands, marijuana farmers have had to stray from their Marley approved growing methods. It's harder to control pests in bigger fields, so they turn to pesticides.

One of those pesticides is myclobutanil, a general use pesticide. It's used on crops you've been eating your whole life but becomes dangerous when heated.

When heated, myclobutanil turns into hydrogen cyanide, a level three chemical weapon. While this is the most extreme example, a study found that 84% of legal marijuana in the US is pesticide treated.

To avoid a highly toxic high, make sure your products are certified organic. They should have an organic certification or at least be pesticide free. Certified kind is the organic authority in the American market.

This information isn't widely popularized, so you may need to do some digging before you buy. Contact your thc vape oil provider or the budtender to ask about their organic options and your lungs will thank you.

2. Cut Out Cutting Agents

Most widely sold thc vape oils are sold with cutting agents mixed in. The added fluids dilute the oil and can thicken vape smoke. Cutting agents let distributors sell less thc per product, saving them money. Finding thc vape oil without cutting agents can be hard, so here's what to look for.

Propylene Glycol

PG is the most popular cutting agent since it creates a smooth smoking experience. However, it’s chemically related to antifreeze and can cause kidney damage in large doses.

Vegetable Glycerin

While it sounds harmless, vegetable glycerin can cause pulmonary complications when heated. It's used to create thicker smoke clouds and is often found in nicotine based e-liquids.

Medium-Chain Triglycerides

The problem with MCT oils isn't with your health, but the health of your vape cartridge. They can cause pens to run dry, shortening its life. Some people notice an aftertaste with MCT-cut oils, but not everyone.

The best bet for your health is to find a pure THC vape oil with no cutting agents. You'll get more product for your money and won't chance potential side effects.

If you can't find anything pure, oils cut with MGT or coconut oils are the best.

3. Extraction Method

The way THC vape oil is extracted from the cannabis plant is important for a quality high. Popular extraction methods include CO2, Butane, Ethanol, and Olive Oil.

Just like with plant quality, the closer to natural the extraction method is the better. Butane and ethanol based extraction methods can leave petroleum solvents in the oil. These solvents can destroy the plant's natural waxes, which decrease THC's medical properties.

The best extraction method is CO2 based. Our bodies produce CO2, so it's considered a natural method. Unlike butane and ethanol, co2 leaves no traces in its final product.

The process for CO2 extraction is complicated. It involves changing the physical state of the gas to capture cannabinoid oils. After extraction the CO2 is reused, making it the most environmentally friendly method.

Companies need a special machine to do this, which only quality companies can afford. If you can't pay for pure CO2 extracted oil, the olive oil extraction method is a close second. Olive oil is more natural than butane or ethanol but can leave behind chemical traces.

Olive oil based oils have shorter shelf lives and need to be stored in dry, cool, dark spaces. If buying an olive oil based product, make sure to check the expiration date.

4. Third Party or No Party

With the range of THC vape oils, it's important to know you're getting a quality product. There are no national regulatory standards, but third party testing labs are trying to fill the gap.

Third party labs run tests for potency, solvents, terpene levels, pesticides, and contamination. Buying products that are third party approved will save you the effort of in-depth research.

5. THC Vape Oil Flavors

Once you know what quality you’re looking for in the market, you can look at flavors. Originally THC oils came in natural flavors determined by terpene levels or the strain’s lineage. As scientists understanding of THC oil grows, so do the flavor choices.

Last year the market opened up to natural flavors such as strawberry and mint, but more exotic flavors are expected to come in the near future.

6. Reusable or Disposable

The most popular items on the market right now are disposable THC oil cartridges. They’re cheaper to buy than full bottles of oil and allow frequent strain changes. One disposable cartridge should last a daily smoker about a month.

Reusable cartridges are harder to clean and take more maintenance, but they’re better for the earth. Whichever you pick, cartridge quality can vary. Do research online before you buy to make sure you’re getting the kind of high you seek.

7. Different Strains

Like buying bud, THC oil comes in different strains. Most popular oils are hybrids, but pure indicia and Sativa options exist. When buying oils you can expect to see a mixture of familiar strains and some newcomers.

If you have any questions your budtender will be able to give you a detailed strain profile.

Vaping your THC isn't that different from buying dry herb. Remember to look for high-quality organic products and read reviews before you buy. If you're looking for a less intense high, try our CBD oils. They come in awesome flavors and are mild enough to use daily!
