The National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws or NORML is probably the most well-known organization fighting for the legalization of marijuana. NORML has existed since 1970 and have been a voice for the people in the legalization revolution of marijuana for decades. The Marijuana Policy Project is another well-known organization in the US that are fighting for legalization of marijuana. The MPP was founded in 1995 and has been avid advocates in this fight since. Their main focus is on eliminating criminal punishment for marijuana usage and possession. They are the leading organization in the effort to reduce the Capitals drug czar access to budget funding. The Law Enforcement Against Prohibition or LEAP organization is just US based. LEAP is a community of Criminal Justice professionals internationally. Their common mission is to successfully end the war on drugs. The individuals in this organization have seen firsthand encounters of how the war on drugs is causing destruction. It is for these very reasons why they are standing up and fighting for a long overdue change that is much needed. Existing since 2000 the DPA or Drug Policy Alliance is a US organization that is avidly involved in the legal process of restricting the reach of the drug war.  They aim to block new initiatives that would be harmful to the progress already made in their efforts. They concentrate heavily on promoting and educating society of sensible reforms in regards to drug policies. The DPA’s belief is that it is the right of the individual to choose what they can and cannot put into their body and that they should only be punished in the event that they harm another. They believe that that the regulation of drugs should be based on science, human rights, health breakthroughs and compassion rather than laws, theories and money.
