How Can I Support Cannabis Advocating
There are many individuals that are cannabis consumer who choose to advocate for ending the prohibition of cannabis. These individuals are widely diverse and span the globe. Not every person that advocates for ending prohibition is a cannabis consumer. Likewise not every cannabis consumer advocates for legalization. But that must change.
It isn’t as Difficult as You Think
Every individual that consumes cannabis whether you are in a legal area or not you need to be educating others on the truth surrounding marijuana. Together we can make a stand. It has been proven time and time again throughout history that if a group of people bands together with a shared goal in mind great changes can occur. Many people think that advocating for marijuana legalization has to be time-consuming and that advocates do nothing more than advocate for legalization. Neither of these beliefs are true. When it comes to advocating for the legalization of cannabis or ending prohibition of marijuana all together there are many simple things that one can do.
Make Contact with Representatives
One of the most important things that you can do from the security of your own home without coming out of the cannabis closet is to contact your local, state and federal representatives. With the power of the Internet, it is very easy to locate the contact information for these individuals. When contacting your representatives it is crucial to remember to only state the facts and to always use credible sources. Do not get discouraged. Stay persistent and take advantage of every opportunity to share information with them, especially when new information evolves.
Replace the Small talk and Educate the World
Another great way of advocating for cannabis is to educate anyone and everyone that you can at any and every chance that is given. One of the easiest ways to do this is to simply replace small talk such as sports and weather with talks about cannabis. Sure there may be a few that are dismissive of what you have to say but if you are armed with the truth, you might just change some minds and that just might change the world. Share your information with the world. Share it with friends, family, members of your gym and church. Share it with anyone that you can that is willing to listen.
Join an Organization and Help Where you Can
Another way that many people choose to advocate for cannabis is by joining organizations such as the local chapters of NORML. By joining a chapter of NORML, you can stay up to date on the local occurrences surrounding cannabis in your area. NORML chapters are typically involved with all events surrounding cannabis activism in their area. Being a member of such an organization will give you first-hand access to information surrounding these events and legalization efforts in your area. Being a member of NORML does not mean that you have to attend every meeting but can if you like. There are many different ways that organizations such as NORML and The Marijuana Policy Project can use your help. These organizations are always in need of volunteers with a wide range of skills.
Wear it Loud and Proud
Another great way to advocate for cannabis is to wear cannabis related attire. Wearing cannabis related attire will often prompt compliments and can even start engaging conversations in public. We’re not suggesting going all out “hippie” and wearing tie dyed everything though you can if you choose. There are many simple and sophisticated options for cannabis attire such as T-shirts that say “One Love” and contain a cannabis leaf. Then of course there is hemp clothing lines as well on the market today that are very affordable and a great alternative to cotton.
Never Stop Educating Yourself
One of the easiest ways to advocate for ending prohibition is to educate yourself on the truth surrounding cannabis. In today's world of the Internet, there is more information at our fingertips than ever before. There are thousands of resources available though so be sure that the ones that you are referencing are indeed credible and up to date. Some suggestions for credible sources include Leafly.com, NORML.org, MerryJane.com, MedicalJane.com, and CannabisCulture.com. A book that contains great historical information that should be read by any and every advocate is “The Emperor Wears No Clothes” which was written by the infamous activist by the name of Jack Herer. These are just a few of the ways that you can advocate for the legalization of cannabis in your spare time. A single seed could tip the scale, you could be that seed!
